Licensing Requirements

SALESPERSON LICENSE

To become eligible to obtain a SALESPERSON license in Alabama, an applicant who does not hold a current real estate license in another state must:

Be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident alien or legally present in the U.S;
Be at least 19 years old;
Show proof of bona fide residency in any state in the U.S.;
Show proof of high school graduation or the equivalent;
Not have been convicted of a felony or a crime involving moral turpitude;
Not have had a real estate application or license rejected or revoked in any state within the past two years.
After meeting the education and/or experience requirements, pass the licensing examination.

Additionally, a SALESPERSON applicant must:

Prior to taking the state exam, successfully complete an approved 60 clock hour prelicense course. Applicants have 6 months to pass the state exam after completing the course. If these deadlines are not met, the course must be retaken.
AND
Must complete a 30 hour post license training course within the first twelve months of licensure in order to be issued an original (permanent) license. Further, the course must be completed and original license issued within the first six months in order to maintain an active license.

BROKER LICENSE

To become eligible to obtain a BROKER license in Alabama, an applicant who does not hold a current real estate license in another state must:

Be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident alien or legally present in the U.S;
Be at least 19 years old;
Show proof of bona fide residency in any state in the U.S.;
Show proof of high school graduation or the equivalent;
Not have been convicted of a felony or a crime involving moral turpitude;
Not have had a real estate application or license rejected or revoked in any state within the past two years.
After meeting the education and/or experience requirements, pass the licensing examination.

Additionally, a BROKER applicant must:

Successfully complete an approved 60 clock hour prelicense course.
AND
Must have held an active real estate salesperson license in any state for at least 24 months of the 36 month period immediately preceding the date of application.

PRELICENSE

Salesperson Requirements -Completion of a 60-clock-hour course approved by the Commission. Applicants must take and pass the salesperson's examination within 6 months of course completion.
Broker Requirements -Completion of a 60-clock-hour course approved by the Commission plus holding an active salesperson's license for 24 of the 36 months prior to application. Applicants must take and pass the Broker's examination within 6 months of course completion.
Reciprocal Salesperson Requirements-Completion of the Commission-approved 6-hour Reciprocal Salesperson Prelicense course covering Alabama License Law. Applicants must take and pass the Reciprocal Salesperson’s examination on Alabama License Law within 6 months of course completion.
Reciprocal Broker Requirements -Completion of the Commission-approved 6-hour Reciprocal Broker Prelicense course covering Alabama License Law. Applicants must take and pass the Reciprocal Broker’s examination on Alabama License Law within 6 months of course completion.

POST LICENSE

Completion of the 30 hour post license course for salespersons within the first six months of licensure for active licensees and within one year for inactive licensees.

Note: There is no post license requirement for brokers.

Upon successfully passing the final exam, course completion confirmation is sent directly to the Alabama Real Estate Commission (AREC). Within 48 hours of this confirmation, Pearson Vue will contact you with a link to apply for the state exam. Please ensure your contact information is current and accurate to facilitate prompt communication.
Reciprocal licensing allows real estate licensees from other states to obtain a license in Alabama without completing all of the usual pre-licensing education requirements. Applicants must still pass the Alabama state portion of the real estate exam and provide proof of their current out-of-state license.
Yes, you can mix in-person and Zoom sessions for any course that offers these formats. You have the flexibility to attend sessions either during the day or in the evening according to what best fits your schedule and learning style.
However, our online self-paced courses are provided through our affiliation with The CE Shop and are entirely separate from our in-person and Zoom classes. These self-paced courses allow you to complete your studies independently, at your own pace, and are not integrated with the in-person or Zoom sessions offered directly by our school.
